EURid to Launch New Registration Platform

23/08/2014 01:14

EURid, the European Registry of Internet Domain Names (.EU domains) will be moving to a new registration platform on 15th September, 2014. The following contains important information about the move:

3 Day Maintenance:

Two days prior to the launch (from 22:00 UTC September 12, 2014 to 07:00 UTC September 15, 2014) the registry will be offline and it will not be possible to perform any actions on .EU domain names.

Management During Maintenance:

  • New registrations will be queued and processed once the registry is back online.
  • Any changes (DNS, contact modifications and so on), renewals and transfers will fail and will need to be resubmitted once the registry is back online on September 15, 2014.

New life-cycle for .EU domains:

After the launch of the new platform, newly registered .EU domain names will follow a different renewal/expiry lifecycle, similar to .COM. Please note that these changes only impact registrations made after September 15, 2014.

  • Currently, .EU domains expire on the second last day of the expiring month. Here’s an example:
    • Registration date: January 15, 2014
    • Expiry/renewal date: January 30, 2015
  • Starting September 15, 2014 newly registered .EU domains will renew and/or expire at the end of their registration term. Here’s an example for a 1-year registration term:
    • Registration date: October 15, 2014
    • Expiry/renewal date: October 15, 2015
